Mission
To foster a love of reading and learning in children by elevating the quality of original Chinese children’s picture books and advocating a culture of reading for pleasure.
03 Reading for pleasure and opportunities for growth
The Jing-Sen Children’s Happy Reading Fund will strategically integrate two of the Foundation’s major programs over the past 20 years: the ‘Feng Zikai Chinese Children’s Picture Book Award’ and the ‘Jing-Sen Reading Initiative.’ The award, a prestigious honor in the field of Chinese picture books, has recognized numerous outstanding works and significantly promoted the creation and development of Chinese picture books. The initiative focuses on school reading promotion and library development, fostering a joyful and independent campus reading environment for children through innovative approaches and ongoing efforts. The Stone Soup Happy Reading Alliance, located in Baohe District, Hefei City, Anhui Province, is a model project of the Initiative. It now includes 57 schools (campuses) and has benefited over 180,000 teachers and students in the past decade.
In the future, the “Feng Zikai Chinese Children’s Picture Book Award” and the “Jing-Sen Reading Initiative” will use the Jing-Sen Children’s Happy Reading Fund as a platform, and with the support of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the Foundation, link up with schools, libraries and reading organizations across the country to jointly build a beautiful world full of reading fun and growth opportunities for children.
