The Reading Dreams project has been implementing for 10 years. With the objective to measure the efficacy of the program, Reading Dreams invited Graduate Institute of Library and Information Studies of Taiwan Normal University to carry out a research project from 2016 December to 2018 June by supporting from the Chen Yet-Sen Family Foundation. There were in total 18 schools at Hunan Shuangfeng participated in the research, in total 406 teachers and 56,141 students, including 9 project schools and 9 non-project schools.

The research is directed at comparing the reading attitude and awareness between students, teachers and administrative staff at schools on 3 stages in one and half years, which are early, middle and final stage of project time. The research report was finalized in 2018 November.

The report reveals that, overall, self-efficacy and devotion to reading among students at schools received the intervention are far better than those at non-project schools.

The improvement of Chinese language performance of project school students is significantly higher than that of non-project schools. The change of students also affected the parents' investment in family education. For teachers, their attitudes towards teaching and teaching skills were also changed. The school administrative staffs payed more attention to the school's reading education work from seeing students and teachers’ attitude and behavior changes.

The results of the research are consistent with the mission and beliefs of Reading Dreams Project, “to establish a reading education culture in the school for developing students' high-level reading ability, good expressive ability, good learning ability and habits" and "to cultivate students' reading interest, habits and learning ability”.

This research report will be published and shared in the 2019 World Chinese School Library Forum at Taiwan, and has already submitted to the Basic Education Department of the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and Hunan Provincial Academy of Sciences. At the same time, it is also recommended that any education department or interested scholars use this as a basis for conducting larger or longer-term follow-up studies in the future.
